1953 年Francis Crick & James Watson 發現 DNA 的結構,揭露了演化、突變背後的機制,一種含有密碼的,可遺傳的,可被改造的胺基酸序列。改變序列就改變了有機體的結構。藉由生殖細胞的基因重組使生物可以對改變的環境條件做出反應,解釋了物種某種特徵的突變演化以及達爾文的適者生存學說。基因重組工程則透過切斷基因中特定的分子並鏈結其他特定基因片段(通常由其他物種取得)。生物學的DNA螺旋的密碼,或許可以和都市,建築,音樂,繪畫,表演…之中某些序列性的機制來類比。重組所牽涉的排序、分層、堆疊、複合、異種元素的組合…等等過程,在其他領域中也或許可以類比到相似的過程。基因重組,從找尋都市、建築、音樂、繪畫、表演或生活中的基因元素開始,建構出一種序列性發展的模式或型態,並呈現出基因元素之間相互的關係和發展次序。在其選定的對象或基地中測試並修正,然後探討重組的可能。目標讓學生以批判的想法來重新解讀體驗原本所熟悉或不熟悉的環境以及議題,經由對所操作的基因重組的再呈現、演譯與設計,來擴展學生設計的視界 主持人Grahame Shane,Professor from GSAPP, Columbia University演講及專題討論將以都市設計的角度介入,提出以Enclave, Armature, Hetrotopian三種基因元素重組的探討。
C組 「FLUX流變」 / 曾柏庭 (BORDEN TSENG)
在選定的基地中蒐集數組統計資訊,藉此探討「FLUX」(流變)作為一種動態本質的各種可能性。在巨型尺度與微縮尺度中實驗有形(tangible)與無形(intangible)之間如何串接並賦予意義。學生將從統計資訊中探求可操作為「形」的概念。成果可為動態影像或可詮釋出「動態建築」的分析圖像。

Day 01:
Assigning each individual students with tasks of collecting local flux data on all 4 sides of the site. The information was collected based on the number of pedestrain, bicycle, motorcycle, car and trucks in every 10 minute interval. They were then analyzed into time based graphic for visual comprehension.

Day 02:
Students were trained for using the software, Maya, for a duration of 2 hours. The data was inputted for surface deformation in each of the individual item collected. This deformation process was repeated for each of consecutive 10 minute interval. The resultant illustration demonstrates an array of flux in a span of 2.5 hours around the site in the late afternoon.

Day 03:
Students were divided into 5 groups for recombinant projects. Each group chose a particular time interval as the basis for developing a piece of specific architecture that deals with time, program and space. This diagram illustrates the qualitative versus quantitative approach to architecture.

Day 03:
Students conducted a Qualitative analysis in relation to the existing condition on site. The local influences were then identified and inputted into the software for producing unpredictable outcome. This diagram means to illustrate a set of network that is observed and programmed as the origin of departure.

Final Presentation:
The resultant deformation demonstrates a set of found logics with a transformative quality that creates an unexpected form of hybrid that is both/and & neither/nor.
